At next month’s Service Desk & IT Support Show, RealVNC will be demonstrating its remote access and control solutions, including the latest version of VNC Enterprise Edition, its enterprise class, cross-platform VNC® solution. Following the success of VNC Viewer for iOS, RealVNC is also showcasing its new app for Android that allows users to take full control of a computer from an Android smartphone or tablet device.
Also being launched will be the latest version 1.2 of VNC® Viewer Plus that connects directly to a VNC Server embedded directly onto supported computers with Intel® Core™ vPro™ technology, for built-in remote access. This means that IT and helpdesk teams can solve complex issues such as OS failures and boot problems without needing to be desk-side. Version 1.2 offers a range of new features including support for Intel’s Fast Call For Help that allows Intel vPro -based clients to be managed remotely when the system is located outside the corporate network.
Designed and built by the original inventors of VNC, VNC Enterprise Edition supports the widest range of operating systems, from Windows and Macintosh through to UNIX, making it ideal for secure remote support in multi-platform corporate environments. Version 4.6 adds additional support for Windows 7 SP1, SUSE Linux 10-11, Fedora 11-13, Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10.
VNC Enterprise Edition 4.6 also offers a range of new and improved features including increased security for end-to-end connections with 256-bit AES encryption along with an improved user interface and the ability to transfer multiple files and folders.
With VNC Viewer for Android or iOS, users can view and interact with their desktop, run applications and access files from a mobile or tablet device, exactly as they would if they were sitting in front of the computer itself. This allows IT helpdesk staff to remotely support colleagues or access servers for troubleshooting wherever they are, reducing downtime and out-of-hours trips to the office.
The app offers a trackpad-style mouse for precision interactions and users can apply familiar touch, tap and drag gestures to control the computer, pinching to zoom into a specific area of the desktop or zooming out to see the entire screen. VNC Viewer is available in the Android Market and Apple’s App Store.

This provides IT technicians with additional manageability functions such as the ability to remotely power up and reboot a machine for troubleshooting and performing maintenance.
With the increasing emphasis on energy savings and sustainability many users turn their PCs off before leaving work making out-of-hours maintenance difficult, being able to remotely power up a machine provides a simple solution for this. In addition, using VNC Viewer Plus to connect to supported computers with Intel® Core™ vPro™ technology allows technicians to resolve complex issues without needing to be desk-side, including remote hardware reset and IDE redirection.
